Mehul Choksi a ‘flight risk’, denied bail by Dominica high court
India Today
Prosecutors argued that Choksi, who has an Interpol red notice issued against him, has no links and ties to Dominica and could abscond if granted bail.
Fugitive Indian businessman Mehul Choksi was denied bail by the high court in Roseau on Sunday after Justice Wynante Adrien-Roberts deemed him a 'flight risk'. Cara Shillingford-Marsh, who led the arguments on behalf of a battery of lawyers for Choksi, argued that the diamantaire obtained Antiguan citizenship through the Citizen by Investment Programme (CBI) in 2017, is a CARICOM citizen, and therefore entitled to bail. She stated that the alleged offense of “illegal entry” for which he is charged is “bailable”. She asked the court to impose “a cash bail sum” and also, impose daily reporting conditions to the “Roseau Police Station” as part of the bail conditions.More Related News
