Meet the American who invented light beer
Fox News
Joseph L. Owades, son of Jewish immigrants who escaped Europe before World War I, left an imprint on American culture that his family never envisioned: Owades invented light beer.
America now boasts more than 9,000 craft breweries, thanks largely to the success of Owades-aided pioneers. "I call him the hired gun of the craft beer industry." It was at Rheingold that Owades had his eureka moment. The new owners rebranded the product Miller Lite and threw the full weight of their marketing muscle behind Owades' innovation. Athletes, celebrities and fans argued in a series of ads over Miller Lite's greatest quality. Light beer remains a largely American phenomenon, say industry experts. Kerry J.
