Medical oath to be replaced by Charak Shapath? National Medical Commission clarifies

Is the Hippocratic Oath being replaced by Maharishi Charak Shapath? A circular released by the National Medical Commission said, "A modified Maharishi Charak Shapath is recommended when a candidate is introduced to medical education."
Days after the health ministry denied reports of replacing the medical oath taken by doctors with 'Charak Shapath', the National Medical Commission said, "A modified Maharishi Charak Shapath is recommended when a candidate is introduced to medical education."
The National Medical Commission said this in a circular released on March 31. Earlier, it was reported that the NMC had suggested the replacement of the Hippocratic Oath taken by doctors.
Later, the Minister of State for Health Bharati Pawar said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha that there had been “no proposal of replacement of Hippocratic Oath with Charak Shapath".
Bharati Pawar had said this while replying to the question of whether the government intends to replace the Hippocratic Oath with the Charak Shapath in the near future.
Meanwhile, the latest NMC curriculum also said that Yoga training will be initiated during the foundation course The practice will be done every day for a maximum of one hour.
The NMC said the curriculum will be implemented for the current batch of students in UG CBME 2021 -- which is beginning this year. The commission also issued a circular on the implementation of new competency-based medical education in undergraduate programmes.
As per the latest notice, all medical colleges in states and UTs have been directed to implement the new course starting February-March 2022.
