
Matter raised with WHO at highest level, says MEA over map showing J&K in different colour

WHO has informed India's Permanent Mission of India in Geneva that they have put a disclaimer on the website, the MEA said in a written response to a question in this regard in the Rajya Sabha.
The issue of the wrong depiction of a map of India on WHO's website has been "raised strongly" with the World Health Organisation, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Monday. The statement was made in a written reply by Minister of State (MoS) V Muraleedharan to a question in the Rajya Sabha.
The question was asked by Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.
Scindia had sought a response from the MEA on whether a map of India on the WHO website "is depicting the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh in a totally different colour" and if so, whether the Government of India has lodged any protest with the WHO in this regard.

In response, MoS V Muraleedharan said in a written reply: "The issue of wrong depiction of the map of India on World Health Organization (WHO) website has been raised strongly with WHO including at the highest level."
The minister further stated that the WHO has informed India's Permanent Mission of India in Geneva that they have put a disclaimer on the portal saying "the designations employed and the presentation of these materials do not imply the expression of any opinion whatsoever on the part of WHO concerning the legal status of any country, territory or area or of its authorities, or concerning the delimitation of its frontiers or boundaries and that dotted and dashed lines on maps represent approximate border lines for which there may not yet be full agreement".
"Nevertheless, Government of India's position on the right depiction of its boundaries has been unambiguously reiterated," the MoS for External Affairs said in his written reply.
