Two people died of suffocation and another person fainted due to overcrowding at a Mathura temple amid Janmashtami celebrations.
The incident took place at midnight at Banke Bihari temple in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura, police said.
“During Mangla Arti at Banke Bihari in Mathura, one devotee fainted at the exit gate of the temple due to which movement of devotees was restricted. As there was a huge crowd, many inside the premises were suffocated due to humidity and two people lost their lives,” said Mathura SSP.

The deceased include a man and a woman, said police.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the loss of lives.
The CM asked the officials concerned to ensure proper treatment for the people injured in the incident.
