A master plan to carry out a slew of works at a cost of ₹30 crore at the Arulmigu Subramaniaswamy temple at Kumaravayalur near Tiruchi, also known as Vayalur Murugan temple, is likely to be implemented this year.
An order has been issued by the State government to implement the master plan, which was drafted by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments department. Eight works are to be taken up under the master plan for which an e-tender has been floated. Construction of a ‘Valli’ thirumana mandapam near the temple complex after demolishing the existing one forms part of the plan. The new mandapam can accommodate about 500 people.
In addition to this, two community halls are to be constructed near the temple complex each with a capacity to accommodate about 250 people. A new ‘annadhana koodam’ for devotees, a shopping complex, quarters for the temple’s executive officer, and a meeting hall for the trust board are to be constructed under the master plan.
A tonsure block near the temple complex, creation of a parking lot and site development, facelift to the temple tank situated close by and construction of an overhead water tank with a one-lakh litre drinking water storage capacity are the other works to be carried out under this plan, said the temple authorities.
The authorities said e-tender for executing the works were floated late last month and the bids will be opened next month. The plan is to complete the entire work in 18 months after the award of the contract. The ‘thirupani’ ahead of the ‘Kumbabhishekam’ is under way.
The ‘balalayam’ was held in February 2023 and the construction of a ‘Mun’ mandapam is on the verge of completion. Nearly 85% to 90 % other works have been completed and the consecration of this temple has been planned next month. The ‘kumbabhishekam’ of this temple the previous time was held in March 2006.
