No casualties reported in the incident
A massive fire broke out at the dumping yard in east Delhi’s Ghazipur on Monday, the Delhi Fire Service (DFS) said.
DFS Chief Atul Garg said that no casualties were reported in the incident and the fire was brought under control after nine fire tenders were rushed to the spot. He added that the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.
Meanwhile, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai has ordered the Dehi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to investigate the incident and submit a report in 24 hours.
“Despite repeated warnings, the municipal corporation doesn’t seem to understand their duty. This is not the first such instance of a landfill fire. Fire department’s teams have been sent to the spot to take control, but seeing the situation at hand, the DPCC has been ordered to investigate the matter. As per their report, strictest of the action would be taken to deter such instances. In the past too, such instances have pointed towards the carelessness of the civic bodies,” said Mr. Rai.
