Massive demolition drive conducted in south Delhi this year, says Delhi civic body

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) revealed on Friday that it conducted as many as 473 demolitions of unauthorised constructed properties in the city's south zone in 2022.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Friday revealed that it conducted a massive demolition and sealing action drive in the city’s south zone between January 1 and August 18, 2022.
According to officials, as many as 473 demolitions and 157 sealing actions were taken against unauthorised constructed properties in Said-ul-Azaib, Khirki Extension, Panchsheel Vihar, Chhattarpur, Freedom Fighter Enclave, Panchsheel Vihar, Kishangarh,Khanpur, Savitri Nagar,Gautam Nagar and Mehrauli.
The field staff of the building department of South Zone was exclusively focused on taking demolition and sealing action against unauthorised construction.

The areas were regularly inspected and unauthorised constructions carried out by unscrupulous builders were identified, said the officials.
As per the officials, the unscrupulous builders carried out unauthorised construction in blatant violation of various laws and lured the general public into buying cheaper flats with extra ground coverage.
The MCD said massive demolition actions have been taken by the department with a view to discouraging unauthorised construction activities by unscrupulous builders. During these actions, the properties have been left in uninhabitable conditions, so that the same cannot be used for habitable or other purposes and there remains no scope for further unauthorised constructions.
