Former Australia cricketer Mark Waugh picked his top five players for the upcoming edition of the T20 World Cup to be played in October-November.
Former Australia all-rounder Mark Waugh picked Shaheen Shah Afridi and Jasprit Bumrah among his top five picks for the upcoming edition of the T20 World Cup. Waugh said that the 28-year-old Bumrah is someone who can bowl with equal efficiency in the powerplay and at the death.
“I think he's a fantastic bowler in all formats, actually. His ability to get wickets in T20 cricket is key. He can bowl at the death and he can bowl up front,” Waugh was quoted as saying.
Waugh also heaped praise on Afridi, saying that he leads Pakistan’s bowling attack and has the potential to create problems for right-handers with his in-swingers.
“To open the bowling at the other end, we'll go with another great opening bowler, Shaheen Afridi from Pakistan, who is a tremendous left-arm fast bowler," he stated.
"He's a wicket-taker. He sort of lifts the team. He's a guy that other players follow. He is a left-armer, so that’s another point of difference. He can swing the ball back into the right-hander, he’s quick as well, so I’ve got him number two,” Waugh added.
Apart from Bumrah and Shaheen, Waugh picked Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan, Australia’s Glenn Maxwell and England’s Jos Buttler as his other three choices.
