Dane van Niekerk missed the 2022 Women's World Cup due to an ankle injury and she hasn't recovered before the tour of Ireland in June.
Veteran all-rounder Marizanne Kapp and swashbuckling batter Lizelle Lee won’t be a part of South Africa’s upcoming tour of Ireland in June. Lee, Kapp and wicketkeeper-batter Sinalo Jafta are recovering from respiratory illness. 24-year-old all-rounder Delmi Tucker didn’t play the World Cup in New Zealand, but has made it to the squad for the Ireland tour.
Tucker scored 409 runs and picked up 15 wickets for the Six Gun Grill Western Province in the white-ball formats this season. Top-order batter Andrie Steyn, spinner Raisibe Ntozakhe and bowling all-rounder Nadine de Klerk, who were all part of the travelling reserve in New Zealand, have been included in the squad.
Dane van Niekerk didn’t play in the World Cup and she is yet to recover from an ankle injury. Fast bowler Masabata Klaas also failed to make the cut due to a shoulder injury.
"I am very excited with the squad selected for the Ireland series. Having some young and fringe players in the group gives us an opportunity to rotate and test their growth. Some of these players just missed out of the recently held World Cup and it is a great opportunity for them to stake claim for positions,” Convenor of Selectors, Clinton du Preez, was quoted as saying.
The Pembroke Cricket Club in Dublin will host the three-match T20I series from June 3 to June 8. Thereafter, the teams will lock horns in three ODIs at Castle Avenue in Dublin.
