Maharashtra Police register case against activist for derogatory remarks, sparking political tensions and murder investigation scrutiny.
The Maharashtra Police have registered a case against Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange-Patil in Latur district for allegedly making derogatory remarks about Minister and NCP leader Dhananjay Munde and his community during a public rally. The case was lodged at Kingaon police station in Ahmedpur taluka in the district.
The complaint, filed by Kishor Munde, a supporter of the Minister, alleged that Mr. Jarange-Patil made objectionable comments targeting Mr. Munde and the Vanjari community during a rally held in Parbhani on January 4.
Based on the complaint, a non-cognisable offence was registered under sections 352 (intentional insult), 351 (2) and (3) (criminal intimidation), and 3 (5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Kingaon police station.
The rally in question was part of an all-party protest in Parbhani on January 4, where participants demanded a thorough and expedited investigation into the murder of Santosh Deshmukh, sarpanch of Massajog village in Beed district. Protesters called for the investigation to proceed without political interference.
During the rally, several Opposition and ruling party leaders demanded the resignation of Mr. Munde, alleging links between his aide, Valmik Karad, and the murder case. Mr. Jarange-Patil, along with the family members of Deshmukh, participated in the protest march.
The incident has sparked political tensions, with the focus now on both the alleged remarks made by Mr. Jarange-Patil and the murder investigation involving Deshmukh.

When reporters brought to her notice the claim by villagers that the late maharaja of Mysore Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar had gifted the land to them, Pramoda Devi Wadiyar said she is not aware of the matter, but sought to assure people that no effort will be made to take back the land that had been gifted by the late maharaja.
