The slain ultra has been identified has Bal Ganjhu. He was killed in an ongoing operation by security forces to flush out the squad of Maoist Commander Ravindra Ganjhu, who has a reward of Rs 20 lakh on his head.
For the eighth consecutive day, a joint team of the COBRA Battalion of the CRPF, Jharkhand Jaguar and district police force laid siege to the forested hills of Lohardaga-Latehar in a massive anti-Naxal operation. Security forces were engaged in a gunfight by a squad of Maoists. During this encounter, Bal Ganjhu was shot and killed. Other militants managed to flee.

Security forces have so far recovered a lot of items including logistics, daily necessities, guns and ammunitions. Several ration stores and bunkers where ultras holed up were also blown up by bombs.
According to sources, the Maoist squad is trying to evade the siege laid by the security forces in the forested area. There have been four encounters in the last eight days. The insurgents are constantly changing their position.
In the first two days of the operation, three COBRA jawans were seriously injured in landmine blasts carried out by Maoists in Bulbul village and its surrounding area.
