Manoj Abraham, currently serving as the Additional Director General of police, Law and Order, has been promoted to the grade of Director General of Police (DGP) and appointed as the Director General of Fire and Rescue Services, according to an order issued by the General Administration Department here on Saturday. Manoj Abraham has been promoted with effect from May 1 in the vacancy created by the retirement of K.Padmakumar on superannuation on April 30.
To facilitate the appointment, an ex-cadre post of Director General, Fire and Rescue Services has been created for a period of one year from May 1 and the post is declared equivalent in status and responsibility to the cadre post of Director, Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau under Rule 12 of Indian Police Service (Pay) Rules, 2016.
Earlier, Manoj Abraham replaced Ajith Kumar as Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Law and Order, in October 2024. Mr. Ajith Kumar was stripped of his charge following allegations by the Opposition and Nilambur MLA P.V Anvar, who accused him of parleying with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and scuttling the Thrissur Pooram to advantage the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Lok Sabha elections in Thrissur.
