Manitoba RCMP have closed a section of the Trans-Canada Highway due to a “very serious” crash Thursday afternoon.

RCMP said the crash has occurred at Highway 1 and Highway 5, near Carberry, and drivers are asked to avoid the area.
The Trans-Canada Highway is closed for three kilometres in both directions from the crash site.
STARS Air Ambulance has sent two helicopters from Winnipeg and Regina to the crash site, and is also sending crews to the area on fixed wing aircrafts. The organization says 14 medical crew members are responding to the crash.
The Health Sciences Centre has been placed in code orange, meaning it is preparing for a mass casualty event.
