Congress leader Manish Tewari expressed shock over the party's decision to expel senior leader Kewal Singh Dhillon. On the question of quitting the Congress, Tewari had said, “I shall cross the bridge when I reach there.”
Congress leader Manish Tewari expressed shock over the party's decision to dismiss senior leader and former MLA Kewal Singh Dhillon from the party without prior notice.
Taking to Twitter, the Congress national spokesperson said, "Shocked to read Kewal Singh Dhillon summarily expelled from Congress without even as much as a notice. When no one was prepared to invest a penny in Punjab during the days of terror, he brought PepsiCo to Punjab."
Tewari said that Dhillon was a Congressman when it was an 'invitation to assassination'.
Congress on February 16 issued a press statement signed by the party's Punjab in-charge Harish Chaudhary announcing Dillon's expulsion from the party.
"The Disciplinary Action Committee has expelled Kewal Singh Dhillon from the party with immediate effect in view of antiparty activities," the statement read.
Speculation that Manish Tewari might leave the Congress had gained momentum when another senior party member Ashwani Kumar resigned from the party. Back then, Manish Tewari had told Panchayat Aaj Tak that he was surprised at Ashwani Kumar’s decision of quitting the party.
Earlier this week, Manish Tewari said at Panchayat Aaj Tak that he was not leaving the Congress but asking for democratic reforms in the party. On the question of quitting the Congress, like some other senior leaders, he said, “I shall cross the bridge when I reach there.”
