Manish Malhotra slays the runway with maximalist bomber jackets and sarong sarees at FDCI x Lakme Fashion Week
India Today
Bomber jackets, kaftans, balloon pants, blazer dresses, oversized outfits, feather-rimmed sarees, jackets paired with shararas, saree sarongs all screamed millennial revenge fashion and wearable - bridge - pret!
Manish Malhotra brought sexy back and announced the millennial trend for 2022 while slaying the ramp at the FDCI x Lakme Fashion Week showcase in Delhi. The unabashed, unapologetic muses slayed the ramp with his premium pret collection. The collection was theatrical, which also looked easy and sexy. Manish made it look like a walk in the park, but creating that would have been a herculean task given the distinct geometrical patterns, eccentric stylish prints topped with metallic detailing.
What was trend setting about this collection was the emphasis on detachable pieces that could team well with an ensemble you can try and create that does not have to be all Manish. The pieces can go from over the top festive to chic to classy paired with timeless attire to out and out glamorous as they make a statement that can put haute couture to shame. A new definition given to the saree with a signature Manish mark of Bollywood-ish exaggeration made this collection what it is.
Busy prints are not for everyone, but Diffuse made it easy for many who are not into it to carry them off. He used the busy prints to make them glam and timeless with clean cuts and contemporary silhouettes.
“Diffuse invites the new generation into the world of bridge fashion. There’s a long intrigue in an instant flash of prints,” said Manish.
The overall vibe was unapologetic and that really was emphasised well by an apt showshopper Siddhant Chaturvedi given his persona. He was the perfect pick for a bridge line with maximalist glamour and an unabashed vibe and really converted the runway into one big party at the end with his sex appeal. Manish should consider him as the face of his glamorous pret labels!
The cat-eye glares on the muses with their ‘born to slay’ glaze and demeanour while walking the ramp was as global as it gets. The line infused glamour , fun and an international appeal, cutting across geographies into attires and the show reflected that too.
The kind of build up to Manish’s show was mind-blowing and I must give it to the FDCI for accommodating everyone with such grace and Manish made it worth the wait and hype with the show that ended in a ramp party in line with the line’s overall vibe and Siddharth who owned the ramp and designs.
