Mandya Police arrested a 35-year-old man and his girlfriend for murdering five women and disposing of their severed bodies in different parts of Karnataka. The accused committed the crime as the women had forced his girlfriend into sex trade.
The perpetrator, identified as Siddalingappa, a resident of Kudur in Ramanagara district, was preparing to kill another woman when he was nabbed by the police from his house in Bengaluru. He was working in the fabrication department of a manufacturing unit at Peenya in Bengaluru.
A woman, identified as Chandrakala, who the accused claimed was his girlfriend, has also been arrested for aiding him in the murders.
The murders took place a few months ago and the accused reportedly wanted to kill five more women.
On June 8, the lower part of a severed body was found in Mandya. Later, another body was found in the same condition. The bodies were found 25 km from each other. The common link between the recovered corpses was that only the bottom halves of the bodies were recovered.
Though the modus operandi of murder —chopping the body into halves — was similar in both murders in Mysuru, the Mandya Police were not able to find any evidence to connect the two victims or identify them.
