Sandesh Kulal, 28, who was admitted to private hospital with a self-inflicted stab injury after stabbing his friend in Udupi, died on August 31. Sandesh waylaid his friend Somyashri, 28, and stabbed her multiple times in full public view in Santekatte of Udupi on August 30. He then stabbed himself. Both were rushed to the private hospital where Somyashri succumbed on August 30 night. Kulal died at 6.30 a.m. on August 31, police said.
Under the NBS, newborns are screened for communication disorders before they are discharged from the hospital. For this, AIISH has collaborated with several hospitals to conduct screening which is performed to detect hearing impairment and other developmental disabilities that can affect speech and language development. The screening has been helping in early intervention for those identified with the disorders, as any delay in the identification poses risk and affects successful management of children with hearing loss, according to AIISH.
