Duncan Avenue South between Second Street West and Hudson Bay Avenue were closed due to the ongoing investigation, police said.
Police responded around 7:30 a.m. to a report of an armed person on Duncan Avenue.
“During an interaction with officers an individual was shot and later died in hospital,” police said on Twitter Tuesday afternoon.
“The OPP North East Region Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, is investigating.”
Because someone was killed during an interaction with police, the province’s Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate, the OPP said.
“As a result, media inquiries should be directed to SIU Communication.”
