Man held at Delhi's IGI airport with 1 kg smuggled gold

One person was arrested at Delhi's IGI Airport for smuggling gold worth Rs 48.90 lakh.
The customs department on Tuesday said that they arrested a man at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi for allegedly smuggling one kg of gold worth Rs 48,90,270.
The customs official said that the accused returned from Dubai and was intercepted following a tip off.
Customs recovered one 'U' shaped structure of gold weighing 1,000 gms, wrapped in silver colour tape and fixed to a rod beneath the seat of the accused.
The officials seized the gold under Section 110 of the Customs Act. The accused also admitted to having smuggled another 2 kg of gold amounting to Rs 86,58,820 in the same way in the past.
The official said that the total customs act violation became Rs 1,35,49,090 and he was charged for both the acts.
