A man has died after he was trapped under a steamroller at a worksite in Whitby, Ont., police say.
The incident happened around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to Durham Regional Police Service.
Police say they were called to the area of Hopkins Street and Consumers Drive to assist an ambulance call. There, they found an unconscious man trapped beneath a steam roller.
It is unclear how the man became trapped beneath the machine.
Emergency crews removed the steamroller, police say, and life-saving measures were taken after emergency personnel couldn't detect the man's vital signs.
As the death happened on a worksite, police say the Ministry of Labour is now leading an investigation into the incident.
