Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested a man who posed as an NIA officer to extort Rs 50 lakh from Chhota Shakeel's brother-in-law to help him evade arrest.
The Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested a man accused of posing as a National Investigation Agency (NIA) officer and extorting Rs 50 lakhs from Chhota Shakeel's brother-in-law, Salim Qureshi.
The accused has been identified as a 30-year-old Vishal Kale. Extortionist and gangster Salim Qureshi alias Salim Fruit paid him Rs 50 lakh to help him in evading arrest from the NIA agency.
Salim Fruit was summoned on multiple occasions last month by National Investigation Agency officials in connection with the case against Dawood Ibrahim, members of Laskar-e-toiba and their accomplices.
Salim Fruit felt that he was going to be arrested and somehow came in touch with Kale, who posed as an NIA officer and identified himself as Devraj Singh. Salim was also called to Delhi and then sent back while Kale boasted of his political links and links with senior officers on the pretext of helping him to evade arrest by the NIA in the case.
Salim was arrested last week by the NIA for funding terror activities of the Dawood Ibrahim gang through extortion and other illegal activities he was carrying out using Chota Shakeel’s name. During the interrogation, NIA officials came to know of details regarding Kale and that Salim had also paid him Rs 50 lakh for evading arrest as extortion.
Based on the details provided by Salim, NIA officials apprehended Kale and then handed him over to Mumbai Crime Branch.
Mumbai Crime Branch has registered a case against Kale for extortion and is probing the case further to find out more details about him and his accomplices.
