York Regional Police say they are seeking a suspect in a homicide investigation after a person was found dead in a Richmond Hill home early Saturday.
In a news release on Saturday, police say they were called at about 8:25 a.m. by a family member to check on the welfare of a person in a home in the area of Gracedale Drive and Shaftsbury Avenue, near Yonge Street and Elgin Mills Road W.
When officers arrived, they found a deceased adult in the home, police said. The person's age and sex were not released.
Const. Lisa Moskaluk, spokesperson for York Regional Police, said police believe that the victim was last spoken to by a family member at about 5 p.m. on Friday.
Moskaluk said the suspect and victim knew each other but she declined to comment further on their relationship.
"We do believe this is a targeted incident," she added. "This happened within a home and we don't believe that this was a random event."
Police said they are now looking for a 23-year-old man. He is described as six feet two inches tall, with a thin build, brown eyes and short, black hair. Police said he was wearing a grey, long-sleeved sweater, black pants and black shoes.
The man is not believed to be in a vehicle, but is known to use public transportation and ride share services. The man is also known to frequent casinos.
Moskaluk said police believe the man fled the home on foot.
Police urged the man to surrender to police. If members of the public see the man or know where he is, they are urged to call 911.
Anyone with information, or video surveillance from the area between Friday at 5 p.m. and Saturday at 9 a.m., is asked to come forward.
