“KCR, Stalin, Mamata Banerjee, Sitaram Yechury, Chautala and Congress leaders come to Sharad Pawar because they want one person to unite us all and give us a vision,” said Patel.
“A meeting was called by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, where 21 political parties assembled. In that meeting, all of them suggested only one name and that was of Sharad Pawar since they believe only one person can bring the opposition parties together,” said Chacko.
Chacko also took a dig at the Congress, a party he was previously associated with. “It’s my request to all opposition parties, they (Congress) no longer enjoy the old glory. The principal opposition party has not won even one single panchayat election in UP in four years, how are they going to lead this country?" asked Chacko.Ahead of the national convention, NCP held its extended working committee meeting on Saturday where the party gave a call for opposition unity. In the same meeting, Sharad Pawar was re-elected as the party's national president.
While addressing the National Convention on Sunday, Sharad Pawar asked his party members to focus on seven major issues—farmers, disruption of communal harmony, inflation, safety of women, unemployment, border-related issues, and misuse of central agencies. Pawar also lodged a scathing attack on the BJP over the release of the 11 men convicted in the Bilkis Bano gangrape case.
