West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee has urged more women to join the police force in the state.
West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee has urged more women to join the police force.
Speaking during the felicitation ceremony of the Kolkata Police on Thursday, the chief minister said, “We want more women to join the police force. We are recruiting women cops for the winners’ brigade. They are very smart and can join the forces after three months of training.”
“In many places, I saw assaulting a male cop is easy. But it is not easy to assault a woman. Which is why I want women should take a bigger part in the police force,” Banerjee said.
“They will be in the front and men will follow them. I believe if a team of 20 women cops take out their bikes together, they can work smartly at checkpoints and fight against corruption, anti-social activities, and murders,” the chief minister said.
The CM said more aspirants should go for IPS. “Most IPS officers posted here are not from Bengal. Though they are working with love, the local language is the problem,” the chief minister said.
“If you are working in Darjeeling and someone writes a complaint in Nepali, you have to know the local language. It won’t be possible to solve the problem if you do not understand the local language,” she explained.
The chief minister also urged the police officials to take care of people in case of natural calamities and accidents.
