The chartered flight Mamata Banerjee was travelling on hit turbulent air pockets before landing in Kolkata, sources have told India Today TV.
Mamata Banerjee's chartered flight hit turbulent air pockets minutes before landing at the Kolkata airport, sources told India Today TV. She was returning from Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi after campaigning for the Samajwadi Party.
No one has been injured in the incident. The pilot managed to safely land the craft, the sources added.
Mamata Banerjee was greeted with black flags and protesters shouting "go back" and "Jai Shree Ram" slogans on her way to Varanasi's Dashashwamedh Ghat for the 'Ganga Aarti'. In videos, shared multiple times on social media, the protesters are heard chanting "Modi, Modi".
Mamata Banerjee was seen getting off her vehicle, stoically standing in front of the protesters as the police tried to disperse the crowd.
Supporters of Banerjee's Trinamool Congress took to the streets of Kolkata agitating against the way their leader was treated in Varanasi.
Trinamool's Rajya Sabha MP Dr Shantanu Sen tore into the BJP for allegedly attacking Mamata Banerjee in Varanasi, who has Z plus security.
"Shame on BJP. Z plus protectee, former Central Minister, 3 terms CM & most popular political character of India Mamata Banerjee attacked at Varanasi. Yogi Adityanath must be summoned & IPS officers must be suspended by Amit Shah. Jagdeep Dhankhar must condemn this attack on his CM," Sen tweeted.
