Mamata Banerjee hits out at Centre over price rise of 800 essential medicines

The West Bengal CM was addressing a public meeting in Siliguri on Sunday where she criticised the Central government over the recent price hike of essential medicines including paracetamol. She also spoke about the Birbhum massacre that has rocked the state.
West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, lashed out at the Centre for their silence on the increase in the price of 800 essential medicines.
“The prices of 800 essential medicines have been hiked. But all political leaders remain mum,” she said while addressing a meeting in Siliguri on Sunday.
The Bengal CM also questioned the Central government on the issue of the price hike in domestic cooking gas. “I want to ask how many times the LPG price has been hiked in five days ? The Prime Minister should answer.”
Banerjee also criticised the decision to hike petrol and diesel prices in recent times .
The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority of India (NPPA) on Friday announced a hike in the price of 800 essential drugs by 10.7 per cent effective from April 1.
The drugs in the list include Paracetamol, Phenobarbitone, Phenytoin Sodium, Azithromycin, Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride and Metronidazole which are used to treat the majority of common ailments such as fever, infections, heart diseases, high blood pressure, skin diseases and anaemia.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is on a five-day visit to North Bengal from Sunday onwards. On the first day of her visit, she addressed a public meeting in Siliguri where she announced 12 new projects for the people of North Bengal.
