Congress presidential polls candidate Shashi Tharoor claimed that Mallikarjun Kharge, who is also in the race for the top post, can’t bring changes to the party.
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who has thrown his hat in the ring for the party president post, said that leaders like Mallikarjun Kharge can’t bring changes to the party and will continue the existing system.
Making his case for the Congress chief post, Shashi Tharoor said that if elected, he will bring changes as per the expectations of party workers.
“We aren't enemies, it's not war. It's a poll for our party's future. Kharge Ji comes in top three leaders of Congress party. Leaders like him can't bring change and will continue the existing system. I'll bring change as per the expectations of party workers,” Shashi Tharoor said in Nagpur.
Earlier today, Congress presidential polls candidate Mallikarjun Kharge said he has not entered the polls to oppose anyone but to strengthen the party. Kharge said he entered the polls after senior and young leaders alike urged him to enter the fray.
Mallikarjun Kharge and Shashi Tharoor were left in the fray in the Congress presidential poll after former Jharkhand minister K N Tripathi's nomination was rejected on Saturday.
The last date for withdrawal of nominations for the Congress presidential poll is October 8, with the final list of candidates set to be published at 5pm the same day.
The polling, if needed, will be held on October 17. The counting of votes will be taken up on October 19 and the results will be declared the same day.
