A statue of Mahatma Gandhi was vandalised at a public park in Punjab's Bathinda. Police said a case has been filed and efforts are underway to nab the culprits.
A statue of Mahatma Gandhi was vandalised by some unidentified people in Punjab's Bathinda on Saturday. Police officials told news agency PTI that a statue of Mahatma Gandhi was vandalised by some unidentified people at a public park in Ramman Mandi.
Police said that the incident took place on the intervening night between Thursday and Friday and a case has been registered at Ramman police station. When locals came to know about the incident, they strongly condemned the vandalism.
Station House Officer (Sadar) Harjot Singh Mann was quoted by ANI as saying, "Some unidentified miscreants vandalised a statue of Mahatma Gandhi at a public park in Bathinda's Rama Mandi. We have filed a case against sections 379, 427 sections of the Indian Penal Code."
Meanwhile, Ashok Kumar Singla, president of District Urban Congress has sought immediate arrest of miscreants who were behind the incident.
Police officials assured that they would arrest the culprits soon and CCTV footage is being examined to trace them.

On Wednesday, a statue of Mahatma Gandhi located at the Vishnu temple in Richmond Hill, Canada was vandalised. Local police said the statue was defaced with graphic words and they are investigating the incident as a hate crime.
