After MP Navneet Rana and her husband Ravi Rana were released from prison on Thursday, May 5, BJP leader Ram Kadam said that the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi government should apologise to the couple for the ten days they spent in prison.
A day after the Rana couple were released from jail, the Maharashtra BJP launched scathing attacks on the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, stating that they should apologise to the couple.
BJP leader Ram Kadam said that the sedition charge on the Rana couple was not justified from day one. “Now, with the court also agreeing to the same, it was a slap on the face of the state government,” he said.
Independent MP from Amravati, Navneet Rana and her MLA husband, Ravi Rana, were released from prison on May 5 after they secured bail.
The husband and wife were arrested on April 23 by the Mumbai police. The Rana couple had said that they would recite the Hanuman Chalisa in front of Matoshree, the private residence of Chief Minister of Maharashtra Uddhav Thackeray.
“Now even the judiciary has said that the case of sedition on the Rana family is wrong. Has the Maharashtra government come to its senses now ? This isn’t the first time such a decision has come out from the judiciary. Even in the past out of mere arrogance these three parties of the state government have inflicted various atrocities on the people. Are you running a government or a factory that troubles people,” said Kadam.
The BJP leader even asked when the state government would apologise to the Rana couple and to their voters as they spent ten days in prison and faced several atrocities.
“These three parties (Congress, NCP, Shiv Sena) will have to apologise to the Rana family and to their voters,” said Kadam.
