Maharashtra govt renames Aurangabad, Osmanabad as it prepares to face trust vote

The Maharashtra Cabinet passed the proposal to rename Aurangabad city as Sambhaji Nagar in honour of the Maratha king.
The Maharashtra Cabinet has approved the proposal to rename Aurangabad city as Sambhaji Nagar and Osmanabad as Dharashiv. The decision comes amid threat to the MVA government following a rebellion by Eknath Shinde-led group.
The demand was made during the Cabinet meeting chaired by Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday. Maharashtra transport Minister Anil Parab of the Shiv Sena said he demanded that Aurangabad city in central Maharashtra be renamed as Sambhaji Nagar.
The proposal regarding the same was brought in today’s meeting. The Maharashtra Cabinet passed the proposal to rename Aurangabad city as Sambhaji Nagar in honour of the Maratha king.

Earlier this month, CM Uddhav Thackeray had said that he will fulfill the promise made by Balasaheb and will rename Aurangabad as Sambhaji Nagar.
Addressing a rally in Aurangabad on June 8, Uddhav Thackeray said, "Hindutva is in our every breath... Telling lies is not our Hindutva, this is not what Balasaheb Thackeray taught us...Balasaheb Thackeray had announced that Aurangabad would be renamed Sambhaji Nagar and I will fulfill this promise.”
