Maharashtra faces fear of power outage due to rise in demand

CM Uddhav Thackeray held a meeting with officials. According to discussions in the meeting, the state needs 25,000 MW of electricity. However, only 21,000 to 22,000 MW of electricity is being supplied.
Several parts of Mumbai witnessed power cuts on April 26 as there were cable faults in the substations between Khar and Bandra. Several pockets in Mumbai and its adjoining suburbs witnessed power outages. Supply was disrupted in Thane, Mulund, Matunga, Ambarnath, Badlapur and Dombivli due to tripping in the 400kV substation at Padgha.
Since then, there have been incidents of power outages due to local issues like cable and feeder faults. Mumbai's demand on Thursday touched a whopping 3800 megawatts (MW), which otherwise in summer is around 3200-3300 MW.
Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray held a meeting with officials last week on the backdrop of the power crisis in the state.
According to the information given in the meeting, the state needs 25,000 MW of electricity, but 21 to 22,000 MW of electricity is being supplied.
The state government has issued notices to Adani Power (APML) and JSW under the Central Electricity Act and MERC Act. Load shedding had started in some areas. However, the government has claimed that the power supply had been restored.
