Maharashtra DGP proposes suspension of former Mumbai top cop Param Bir Singh and other police officers

The Maharashtra DGP sent a proposal to the state government seeking suspension of Mumbai's former top cop Param Bir Singh and other police officers. However, the state government has sought more clarity on the matter.
Maharashtra Director General of Police (DGP) Sanjay Pande sent a proposal to the state government to suspend former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh alongwith other police officers accused in the alleged extortion cases.The proposal by the DGP for suspension of Singh and other police officers, including officials of the ranks of deputy commissioner of police (DCP) and assistant commissioner of police (ACP) was sent to the state government following the FIRs being registered against the said police officers and inquiries being initiated against them, according to sources in the state government.However, the Home Department has sent back the proposal seeking clarity on the role of each policeman whose suspension has been sought.Singh has been on leave since May 4, after citing medical reasons, and had sought two extensions till August 29 but hasn't communicated after that. The Justice Chandiwal Commission set up to probe the allegations made against former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh had fined Singh for not appearing before the commission and issued two bailable warrants, which couldn't be served to Singh as he was not traceable.A team of CID (Crime Investigation Department) had been sent to Chandigarh to serve the bailable warrant on Singh but couldn't serve as he was not available.The Mumbai police following the Antilia bomb scare case saw a number of officers being transferred out of Mumbai, from the crime branch and other sections of the commissionerate.
