
Maharashtra: Cop suspended for demanding money from missing girl’s father

An assistant police inspector from Dindrud police station in Maharashtra’s Beed district was suspended for allegedly demanding a sum of Rs 40,000 from a man whose 17-year-old daughter is missing. The accused cop demanded money through a middleman. According to the complaint, the teenage girl, a native of Belura village of Majalgaon, went missing last month, following which her family lodged a missing persons complaint at the Dindrud police station. Based on the complaint, a case was filed, but there weren't any developments, forcing the missing teenager’s father to make the rounds of the police station. After noticing that the girl’s father was frequently coming to the police station, API Anil Gavhankar, through a middleman, demanded Rs 40,000 to trace the missing teenager. The girl’s father said in his complaint that initially he borrowed Rs 15,000 to pay the cop. Eight days passed but there wasn’t any progress in the case. Thereafter, the middleman asked for more money. The girl’s father then arranged Rs 10,000 and gave it to the middleman.More Related News
