Madurai man highlights ‘cash for vote’ issue, brings mouse trap to file nomination for TN local body polls

A candidate from Madurai went to file nomination papers in the Tamil Nadu urban local body elections along with Rs 2,000 in a mouse trap. He said that taking money for votes is like getting stuck in a trap for five years.
A candidate in Madurai walked in with a mouse trap and a Rs 2,000 note on it to file the nomination papers for the Tamil Nadu urban local body elections.
Jaffer Sherif filed a nomination to contest from Ward number 3 in Madurai. He stated that he brought a mouse trap to create awareness about the ‘cash for vote’ issue in Tamil Nadu.
Jaffar stated that cash for votes is a rampant issue in the state. He added that he wanted to highlight that taking money for votes is like getting stuck in a trap for five years.
“I want to convert my Ward into a ‘Model of Cleanliness’ and I’m carrying this mouse trap to inform people about how they get caught in a trap once they take money. I have a good job and I can live a good life with the money I earn, but it is time for educated citizens to give back to the nation and that’s why I’ve decided to contest,” stated Jaffar Sherif.
The last day for filing nominations for the Tamil Nadu urban local body polls is Friday, February 4. The election is scheduled to take place on February 19 and the counting of votes will take place on February 22.
