Madhya Pradesh bypoll announcement kicks up political dust

While political parties had an idea that polls were to be announced as the 6-month lag between a seat being vacant and by-elections had already lapsed, the announcement came as somewhat of a surprise.

Hectic political activity has commenced in Madhya Pradesh after the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced bypolls to three assembly segments and one Lok Sabha seat in the state on Tuesday.

All the four by-elections in Madhya Pradesh are necessitated by the death of the MLAs and the MP, all of whom were lost to Covid in 2021.
