IPL 2022, LSG vs RR: Yuzvendra Chahal won back the Purple Cap after he picked up a wicket in RR's win to take his tally to 24 wickets. He is one ahead of RCB star Wanindu Hasaranga.
Rajasthan Royals leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal regained the Purple Cap from Royal Challengers Bangalore counterpart Wanindu Hasaranga when he picked up a wicket in their win over Lucknow Super Giants in Match 63 of IPL 2022 on Sunday. However, the India leg-spinner played down any competition for the top spot in the bowling charts between him and the Sri Lanka spinner.
Chahal picked up the big wicket of in-form batter Depaak Hooda which derailed Lucknow Super Giant's chase. Hooda had hit 59 from just 39 balls and was keeping LSG's hopes alive but he was outfoxed by Chahal when he ran down the wicket to hit a big one.
Chahal took his tally to 24 wickets in 13 matches in IPL 2022 and wore the Purple Cap again after losing it for a brief period. The leg-spinner has continued to shine in the IPL despite not having been retained by RCB at the end of the last season.
Hasaranga took the Purple Cap for the first time on Friday, May 13 when he picked up 2 wickets against the Punjab Kings in their 54-run defeat.
Chahal said he is happy whenever Hasaranga or his wrist-spin India teammate Kuldeep Yadav pick up wickets. Kuldeep has picked up 18 wickets in 12 matches for Delhi Capitals in a resurgent IPL run this season after a couple of tough years with Kolkata Knight Riders.
"Whatever he's doing, I am happy for him because he's like a brother to me. If he takes wickets, if Kuldeep takes wickets, I am happy with that," Chahal said.
Furthermore, Chahal said he was not very happy with his bowling performance despite picking up the key opposition wicket. The leg-spinner gave away 42 runs in 4 overs.
