LSG vs CSK, IPL 2022: Defending champions Chennai Super Kings have failed to win their first two games in a row for the first time in the history of the tournament.
Chennai Super Kings are the defending champions but they have now lost both their matches in IPL 2022. They went down to Kolkata Knight Riders in the season opener on Saturday and then failed to defend 210 against Lucknow Super Giants on Thursday. This is the first time CSK have lost their first two matches in an IPL season.
Chennai Super Kings are the second most successful team in the history of the IPL. Two days before the 2022 edition, MS Dhoni announced his decision to step down as CSK captain as he handed over the reins to Ravindra Jadeja. Against KKR, while the rest of the CSK batting line-up imploded, MS Dhoni showed his class with a quick half-century.
On Thursday, MS Dhoni got off the mark with a six off Avesh Khan and became the 6th Indian to score 7000 T20 runs.
But all of MS Dhoni's brilliance has not been enough to get CSK their first points of the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League. Before the mega-auction, CSK had retained Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, Ruturaj Gaekwad and Moeen Ali. The likes of Shardul Thakur, Faf du Plessis and Josh Hazlewood were not bought back.
Deepak Chahar's injury has added to CSK's woes and it is not clear when the all-rounder will be fit to play again.
Chennai Super Kings can, of course, bounce back from the poor start to the season. But fans would undoubtedly be reminded of the horror run in 2020 when they finished 7th in the points table after managing to win only 6 of their 14 matches.
But MS Dhoni led the Super Kings to glory in 2021 to add to their three previous IPL titles in 2010, 2011 and 2018.
