'Longstanding nuisance' problem property shut down in Beaumont

Alberta Sheriffs have shut down a Beaumont home they say has been the subject of multiple police complaints this year.

Alberta Sheriffs have shut down a Beaumont home they say has been the subject of multiple police complaints this year.

Sheriffs said activity at the home 4805-44 Ave. was the subject of five complaints since March 8, with 19 "incidents" at the property between February and August.

Another five incidents were linked to the property and local RCMP said the house has "long been associated" with drug and criminal activity.

Officers from the Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) unit closed down the property on Tuesday using a court order against the owner.

The calls to police "have had an unsettling impact on the community," said Beaumont RCMP Cmdr. David Marentette.

"With today’s closure, the SCAN unit and RCMP are alleviating the neighbourhood of the longstanding nuisance and threat to safety associated with this property," added SCAN Insp. Karleen Schenkey.

The current lease or tenancy agreement has been terminated and everyone has been forced to leave the house.
