Outgoing Mayor Ed Holder's chain of office has allegedly been stolen from City Hall in London, Ont.
It is not known when the ceremonial dressing was lifted, but city staff confirmed the theft to CBC News Wednesday, saying the matter is now being investigated by London Police.
"We are investigating a theft from 300 Dufferin Avenue, and the investigation is active and ongoing," said Const. Sandasha Bough in an email to CBC News.
The disappearance of the necklace comes two days after the municipal election, where a new mayor and council were voted in to represent the city for the next four years.
Also known as a livery collar, the chain is worn as insignia of the office and is often reserved for council meetings and formal occasions. The London chain was kept in a glass case on the second floor of City Hall.
While the chain of office has little monetary value, it is significant to the history of the city and the mayors who have served.
