George Floyd died of a lack of oxygen from being pinned to the pavement with a knee on his neck, not drug use and health problems, a medical expert testified during former Minneapolis police officer Dereak Chauvin's murder trial Thursday.
Chauvin, 45, is charged with second and third-degree murder and manslaughter in Floyd’s death on May 25, 2020. The lack of oxygen resulted in brain damage and caused his heart to stop, the witness said. Chauvin, 45, is standing trial on murder and manslaughter charges in connection with Floyd’s death. Prosecutors allege that Chauvin held his knee on Floyd’s neck for 9 minutes and 29 seconds, despite Floyd being handcuffed, in a prone position.More Related News
