Colorado authorities have identified the 10 people killed at a Boulder supermarket and vowed to hold accountable the accused gunman, charging him with 10 counts of murder in Monday's rampage.
The 21-year-old accused gunman, Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa, was charged with 10 counts of murder in the first degree, Police Chief Maris Herold said. He was being treated at a hospital for a gunshot wound, and Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty expected him to be transferred to a jail later Tuesday. The district attorney said he believed the suspect acted alone and that the community was safe. The Food and Drug Administration said Wednesday that the U.S. food supply is still "one of the safest in the world," in the wake of a number of foodborne disease outbreaks affecting items ranging from organic carrots to deli meats to McDonald's Quarter Pounders. E. coli, listeria and other contaminants have sickened thousands of people and forced a number of recalls in recent months.
