Live pangolin rescued in Odisha’s Boudh district; one arrested

A live pangolin was rescued by the forest officials in Odisha’s Boudh district on Tuesday. A man was also arrested after he failed to provide any documents to support his possession of a live pangolin.
A team of the Special Task Force (STF) along with Boudh forest officials rescued a live pangolin and arrested a man in Odisha's Boudh district on Tuesday, June 7.
Acting on a tip-off, a raid was conducted near Khuntigura village between Kantamal- Baliguda Road under Kantamala police station in Boudh district.
As a result, a man identified as Biseswar Bagarti, resident of Sonepur district, was apprehended and a live pangolin weighing 12 kg 400 gm was recovered from his possession.
The accused was arrested after he failed to provide any documents to support his possession of a live pangolin. Subsequently, he was handed over to Kantamal forest officials.
Meanwhile, the live pangolin was also handed over to DFO Boudh for safe custody.
Since 2020, STF has seized about 15 live pangolins.
