Lionel Messi wants to stay at Barcelona, contract renewal talks going well: President Joan Laporta

Barcelona president Joan Laporta said Lionel Messi's contract renewal with the club doesn't depend on money but their intent to win the La Liga and Champions League after a disappointing 2020-21 season.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta gave Lionel Messi and the Catalan club fans plenty to cheer for as he said the Argentina great is willing to stay with the club. Laporta said talks for contract renewal are going in the right direction, adding that Barcelona are close to announcing more new signings. Barcelona signed Sergio Aguero from Manchester City on Monday. They also announced the signing of Eric Garcia, their 2nd arrival from the Premier League champions. Messi's current contract expires at the end of June and he is free to discuss a move to another club, but media reports on Tuesday suggested an agreement was imminent.
