Tamil actor Simbu on Tuesday called for unity in the name of Tamil amid controversy over Amit Shah's remark on replacing the second language English with Hindi.
After AR Rahman, Tamil actor Simbu on Tuesday spoke out against alleged Hindi imposition by Centre after Home Minister Amit Shah spoke of Hindi replacing English as the second language.
Taking to Twitter, Simbu wrote, "Let us unite in the name of Tamil," with a pro-Tamil hashtag, #TamilConnects.

Hindi imposition debate was reignited when Amit Shah said that Hindi should be accepted as an alternative to English, not to local languages.
Following this, AR Rahman shared a picture of Thamizhanangu (Goddess Tamil) on Twitter, along with a line written by modern Tamil poet, Bharathidasan, which reads, “Beloved Tamil is the root of our existence.”
