Leopard combing operation at Infosys campus in Mysuru called off due to no sightings, Forest Department issues preventive measures.
The Forest Department has called off the leopard combing operation at the Infosys campus in Mysuru as there was no sight of the animal which was first sighted on December 31, 2024.
Deputy Conservator of Forests (Territorial) K.N. Basavaraj said despite intensive combing of the campus multiple times, there was no trace of the leopard nor was it sighted in the CCTV cameras or camera traps during the last 10 days. Neither did the combing team come across pug marks during the operations, he added.
He said in addition to combing the campus, the exercise was also carried out in surrounding areas abutting the company campus but they did not come across any sight or trace of the leopard during the last 10 days. An aerial search had also been launched using two drones but to no avail, said Mr. Basavaraj.
The authorities had deployed multiple teams drawn from the Leopard Task Force apart from installing camera traps at vantage points in a bid to identify and ascertain its position. A thermal drone was also used at nights in a bid to track its movement. The leopard was first sighted on December 31, 2024, while pug marks were identified after a few days.
But since the last 10 days then there has been no trace or marks attributable to the leopard in the campus despite intensive combing and hence the operations was being called off, said Mr. Basavaraj.
The Forest Department has issued instructions to the company on how best to beef up measures to prevent the entry of leopard in addition to a set of do’s and don’ts in the event such an incident was repeated. Mr. Basavaraj said Infosys has also been advised to deploy thermal drone at night to continuously keep a watch on the campus.
The Infosys had shifted to online mode of work since January 1 and this was recently extended to two more weeks while the trainees were sent home for online training.
