Bhilwara Kings returned to winning ways as they thrashed Gujarat Giants by 57 runs on Tuesday in the Legends League Cricket. Chris Gayle's debut for the Giants didn't go as plan as he failed to impress.
Bhilwara Kings bounced back from their defeat to Manipal Tigers by thrashing Gujarat Giants by 57 runs in the Legends League Cricket on Tuesday.
Morne van Wyk and William Porterfield shined with the bat for the Kings while the bowlers were also right on the money to ensure that the Giants, despite their destructive batting order, crumbled during the chase.
The Giants had won the toss and captain Virender Sehwag decided to field first. The decision came back to haunt him as Van Wyk and Porterfield took apart the bowling and put on a 117-run stand for the first wicket.
Porterfield scored 64 runs off 33 balls and his innings consisted of 10 boundaries and two sixes. Van Wyk also scored a fifty from 28 balls and his innings had four boundaries and four sixes in it.
The momentum changed a bit in the game when Appanna and Swann dismissed the opening pair in quick succession but skipper Irfan Pathan and Jesal Karia chipped in with valuable knocks of 34 and 43 in quick time to ensure that the Kings posted a massive total of 222 runs in their 20 overs for the loss of just four wickets.
The Giants never got going in their chase of the massive target and lost in-form Kevin O'Brien early. While Sehwag and Chris Gayle got a partnership going it was quickly ended by Karia, who picked up the wickets of both men. Gayle failed to impress on the night for the Giants.
