Lathi-charge on demonstrators 'unfortunate', says Uttarakhand CM, orders enquiry

Demanding that a road in their district be widened, residents of Nandprayag Ghat tried to gherao the Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha on Monday, prompting the Chamoli Police to resort to lathi-charge.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on Monday labelled the clash between police and locals in Gairsain as "extremely unfortunate". The incident is being taken seriously, CM Rawat said adding that a magisterial enquiry has been ordered into the matter. ; "Those responsible will not be spared," the Uttarakhand Chief Minister went on to add. Locals from Uttarakhand's Nandprayag Ghat have been staging a demonstration for the past 87 days, demanding that a road in the district be widened. This demonstration took a violent turn on Monday when demonstrators marched to the Uttarakhand Assembly in the state's summer capital Gairsain during the ongoing Budget session.More Related News
