A late-night joyride ended in tragedy when a car carrying six young men plunged into Jalalpur cheruvu in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, leaving five dead. The Pochampally police have booked a case.
The victims, identified as Harsha, Dinesh, Vamsi, Balu, and Vinay, all aged between 20 and 25, hailed from Hyderabad. The group, all private employees, had embarked on a drive from LB Nagar to Valigonda late Friday (December 6, 2024) night when the accident occurred during the early hours of Saturday (December 7, 2024).
According to police reports, the mishap happened when the driver failed to notice a sharp left curve on the road, mistakenly assuming it continued straight. The car, registered as AP 39 LQ 0809, lost control and plunged into the water.
One of the six occupants, Medaboina Manikanta, managed to escape by breaking a window. The survivor, who was seated beside the driver, recounted the harrowing incident and revealed that the car had four men in the back and two in the front.
“I broke the side window glass and escaped. I tried to stop two cars crossing the curve before one milk van stopped aside. We then called the cops for help,” he recounted in a video taken at the spot.
The Pochampally police received a call through Dial 100 at 5:27 am. Emergency responders arrived promptly but were unable to save the other five occupants. Their bodies were later retrieved from the submerged vehicle. A case has been registered, and the police are investigating the circumstances leading to the accident.
