Lata Mangeshkar's ashes immersed in Ganga, Varanasi

Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar's ashes were immersed in the Ganga river by her family members. She breathed her last on February 6.
Singing icon Lata Mangeshkar breathed her last at a private hospital in Mumbai on February 6. Her family members immersed her ashes in the Ganga river, Varanasi. Lata's sister Usha Mangeshkar and several other family members went to Varanasi for the ritual. Lata Mangeshkar's family members hired a boat at Khidkiya Ghat and went to Ahilyabai Ghat for the ritual.
Lata Mangeshkar was hospitalised in January after testing positive for Covid-19. However, her health condition deteriorated and she was put on a ventilator. She passed away on February 6 at the age of 92. Earlier, her family members immersed her ashes in Godavari, Nashik.
After Nashik, Lata's family reached Varanasi to immerse her ashes in the Ganga river. Usha Mangeshkar and other family members performed the rituals, as per priest Shrikant Pathak's instructions. Then, they immersed her ashes in Ahilyabai Ghat, Varanasi.
Lata Mangeshkar was known as the Nightingale of India. She was 92 years old. The legendary singer was cremated with full state honours at the Shivaji Park Ground in Mumbai. Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the funeral and paid last respects to the icon.
Celebrities including Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra, Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, among others, took to social media to pay tribute. Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Sachin Tendulkar and Javed Akhtar were spotted at the funeral.
